This is the second time we've camped here. Yes, the Interstate road noise is loud, but constant enough to be kind of soothing. We love the owner. He's so relaxed and cool about things. No sooner did we get set up (with a warm greeting and "supervision" by his black lab), he offered us tomatoes and corn! He grows a lot of stuff here and welcomes us to enjoy the spoils! With Passport America, he gave us six nights for $100. Full hook-ups. Easy access to major roads. No other perks, but that works for us.
We stayed here for most of the month of August, so they gave us a monthly rate of $300, which worked out to about $12.50 a day for our stay. We stayed on site #48 which is a huge back in just as you enter the campground area. A gorgeous view of the pond (with fountain), horse barn and golf course. Staff was very friendly, stopping to chat when out and about taking care of business. They have a honey-wagon service...every Monday the honey wagon comes along and takes care of the tanks for $12.50. Even though the dump station was less than 100 yards from our door, we appreciated this service! The campground is a hike from pretty much anything. And there's nothing as far as a pool or hiking trails (no one is allowed on the golf course unless they're golfing). However, this is the second time we've camped here and we'll no doubt be back.
This adult park has friendly staff but no ambiance. It has large pull-through sites, a very small game room, and a decent, clean laundry facility with 4-5 washers and dryers. The full-time residents keep to themselves. The owners' dogs are the only dogs permitted to be left outside unattended (in a fenced yard). Unfortunately, they bark quite a bit at anything that moves. Hilltop now belongs to Passport America. For $12/$13 a night, it's not bad as a stop-over.
Everything was fine here except the burrs and pine spurs all over the property. They were extremely sharp and got stuck in the dog's paws. We found that only walking the dogs on the pavement was an improvement, but not a cure-all. Human bare feet were also a no-no.
We were very disappointed that we were not warned of the low branches in the pet friendly section of the park! We trusted that the staff would have warned us that our 35' long and 13'2" high rig would fit. It was impossible to maneuver into the first assigned site (#92). We made it into site #85 after scraping a tree branch the size of a trunk, causing $7,000+ worth of damage on our month-old fifth wheel's roof. The rubber roof was torn in four places and the frame was bent. Had the staff warned us, or had our reservation for three days not been paid in advance, (and was non-refundable -- only transferable to another date within a year), we would not have attempted it.
